Cultural Arts Relocation Services

The Project

The Cultural Institutions Collections Storage project will deliver a new purpose-built storage facility for the South Australian Museum (SAM), the Art Gallery of South Australia (AGSA), the State Library of South Australia (SLSA) and the History Trust of South Australia (HTSA), collectively known as the Cultural Institutions (CIs).

The final stage of the project is the transition component and has a completion date of 30 June 2024, following a construction completion date of December 2023 for the purpose-built facility.

Expressions of Interest

This Expression of Interest (EOI) focusses only on the relocation of collections in the transition component of the project. The Department is seeking information from organisations who have the capability in managing relocation of large-scale cultural collections.

More specifically, organisations that have experienced personnel in the handling of sensitive collections (packaging, loading & unloading) innovative track and trace system capability (bar coding and RFID labelling), suitable fleet & equipment that meets the requirements for transportation of a large scale cultural art collection including on-board climate control solutions.

The organisation must also have the ability to transport bespoke objects (please note all objects are bespoke in size and shape…multiple artefacts in collection exceed 8m in length and can weigh in excess of 500kg+).

The project involves the transportation of sensitive cultural art from ‘Point A’ to ‘Point B’. The collection to be moved spans across numerous sites (Point A’s), and all will be transported to a single facility (Point B).

It should be noted that the collection to be transported is fragile, bespoke and each object is unlike the previous. Dimensions of individual items in collection range from small boxes and highly fragile objects, up to 8m+ long bespoke objects that will require strategic planning throughout the transportation process.

Due to the nature of the collection to be moved, transportation will be strategic and a high-level ‘schedule of movement’ will be utilised to mitigate risks identified through the project development process.

This Expression of Interest (EOI) does not create any representation, either express or implied, that:
  • any invitation or procurement process will proceed; or
  • if an invitation or procurement process does proceed, the participants response as part of the procurement process will be given any preference or special consideration by responding to this EOI.
