Dorado Development – FPSO and WHP

The Project

The Dorado field is located in the Bedout sub-basin, approximately 150km North of Port Hedland in Petroleum permit WA-437-P.  The project will be developed by Santos in a joint venture with Carnarvon Petroleum. Development is planned to consist of a disconnect able Floating Production, Storage and Offloading facility (FPSO) with a 16 slot Wellhead Platform (WHP) using a jack-up drilling rig, connected via subsea production and injection flowlines, risers and umbilical.

Santos estimates that the development will have an 10 to 15 years of liquids production with an expected gas phase following. The project is currently in Front End Engineering Design (FEED) phase, with a  Final Investment Decision (FID) planned in 2022 and production Ready For Start Up (RFSU) some 4 years later.

In September 2021, Santos awarded two (2) major contracts:

FPSO FEED Services Contract awarded to Altera Infrastructure Production
WHP EPCI Contract awarded to Sapura Energy

During the FEED phase, which will continue throughout 2021, Santos will work closely with its major contractors to identify and communicate opportunities to supply key Goods and Services to the project. As part of the Dorado Australian Industry Participation Plan (AIPP), Santos has engaged the Industry Capability Network to assist with Australian vendor identification.
